    Project Highlights:

The AWWA Makerspace makeover focused on transforming an existing space into a functional, inclusive, and inspiring creative environment. Every element was carefully considered to support diverse user needs—especially for individuals with physical and developmental challenges—while maintaining flexibility and modularity for educators and caregivers.

    • Redesigned Layout for Accessibility & Flow:
The floorplan was reconfigured to maximize open space, improve navigation, and ensure wheelchair accessibility. Pathways between stations were widened, and furniture placement was optimized to allow for group interaction or individual focus.
    • Custom Pinewood Fixed Tables:
Durable, natural wood tables provide sturdy work surfaces for various crafting and technical activities. Their fixed placement anchors the room’s functionality and ensures stability for users with motor difficulties.
    • Modular Shelving and Storage Solutions:
Aluminum profile shelving systems and existing storage units were retained and repositioned for better visibility and reachability. Tools and materials are now easier to locate, promoting independent use and reducing clutter.
    • Sliding Doors for Better Access:
Sliding door installations improve space efficiency and accessibility, especially for users with limited mobility. These doors allow smoother movement between storage areas or adjacent rooms without obstruction.
    • IKEA Pegboards & Pedestals:
Wall-mounted pegboards in contrasting colors (white, black, brown) offer creative flexibility while organizing frequently used tools and supplies. Color-coded panels also support visual learning and material categorization.
    • Rendered Design Views for Stakeholder Buy-In:
Photorealistic rendered images were used to communicate the final vision clearly with stakeholders before implementation. These visuals helped align expectations and streamline decision-making across teams.
    • Future-Ready Setup:
The space was designed not just for current needs, but with future adaptability in mind. Equipment and layout choices allow for easy upgrades, maintenance, and modular expansion as user needs evolve.
